You’ve got two elements to your life: your professional persona and your private and personal life. You need to maintain the both of them, to make sure you’ve living happy and fulfilled at all times… But that can be hard, can’t it? It can be difficult to find a balance between the working world and your ‘normal’ one. It can be hard to see your friends and families as often as you want, simply because a career can be all-consuming by its very nature.
But stepping back a little, to assess the situation and see what needs changing, is the first step to finding the kind of balance you desperately need in your life. And hopefully, this post can help you do just that.
Give Yourself a Limit
If you’re someone who likes to slog away at work, having productive days and making yourself proud when you get home again, make sure that you’re not overdoing it. Make sure you’re not spending all of your energy at work, tiring yourself out for anything else that you want to do when you’re at home again. After all, you’ve got other responsibilities to be keeping up with, and you don’t want them to slide away completely.
So, why not leave work when your shift ends, and make it a rule to never stay later? Why not give yourself a half hour, at least, for doing something else when you get home, before you move onto to finishing that paperwork you brought with you. It’s much easier to find a balance when you can have just a little bit of discipline!
Simplify Your Time
If you want to have more of a social life, try to cut out the mundane middleman. For example, you need to get ready to go out with your friends, you need to travel to get there, you need to have the money in hand to pay for food and drink and the entrance, and you might even find someone very attractive to go home with tonight, so you need to get your protection in order.
Well, to simplify this state of affairs, you need to think ahead. Put your makeup in your handbag, so you can primp on the go. Plan a night out that’s close to home, or even right at home. Pool funds together to make sure everyone has a good time. And why not look into IUD contraception, to make sure you’re always up to date on the protection side?
Don’t Be Hard on Yourself!
Most of all, make sure you’re not blaming yourself for having a less than stellar work/life balance. It’s something we all struggle with, and you never know if someone who seems to have it all together actually does in reality!
Make sure you’re taking it step by step, and making changes where you can. Sometimes you just need to think about things, to come up with some ideas, and make sure you get all of your loved ones involved as well.
